NEC’s CE151 Chip Brings HD Videos to Mobile Phones

NEC-CE151-chip

Before you get too excited, I should tell you NEC just introduced their new wonder chip, we probably won’t see it on a phone before the end of the year.

Still the NEC CE151 camera chip is quite a breakthrough that supposedly makes mobiles comparable to DSLR cameras. Among the most impressive features of NEC’s new chip are the HD video recording capabilities and the shooting of still images of up to 13 megapixels.

There was no official statement on when we can expect NEC to implement the CE151 chip in its handhelds, but I wouldn’t hold my breath. Be sure to check the rest of its features, after the break.

  • Easy to use API
  • Will be backwards compatible with earlier NEC CE chips, providing a smooth transition to the CE151
  • Noise-reduction function to minimize lens distortion commonly found in phone cameras
  • Reduced energy consumption of appr. 25% from the CE143
