Altek To Launch 14 Megapixel Camera Phone

Altek has developed a new camera phone which features an impressive camera lens. Called the Altek Leo 3.5G, the handset has been presented as a smartphone and comes with a 14 megapixel CCD sensor.

Even if technical specs haven’t been made public yet, we know that the cameraphone is capable of shooting in HD, it has LED flash for video mode and Xenon flash for picture mode and 3x optical zoom.

The smartphone’s other features include WiFi and 3G connectivity with HSPDA support and it seems it will be running a version of Google’s Android OS. Altek said that they will release more information on the Altek Leo 3.5G at CommunicAsia 2010 event which takes place in June.


Nvidia Showcases Its Android Based Tablet


The “plastic version of the Apple iPad” isn’t helping Nvidia’s tablet prototype very much, but its technical specifications make you forget all about design.

Nvidia’s Android-based tablet PC isn’t ugly, but the plastic case does feel abit cheap, compared to other tablets, already on the market. But the guys at Gizmodo, wo got the chance to test it, didn’t let themselves get distracted by design, and were amazed to find this gadget shines a lot broighter  on the inside.At the heart of this technological jewel, they discovered Nvidia’s Tegra 2, powered by a core ARM Cortex A9, a chip that’s a generation ahead of the iPad’s A4, 1 Gb of RAM, and two USB ports.


Garmin and ASUS Join Forces for the Garminfone


T-Mobile has announced it will be distributing the new Android-powered phone, dveloped by ASUS, in collaboration with GPS-device specialist, Garmin.

Garminfone was announced late last month, and T-Mobile has announced it will be available in June, for $199, with a two-year agreement. This collaborative effort of ASUS and Garmin features a 3.5 inch touchscreen display, a 3 megapixel camera, GPS, and Garmin’s own custom UI, meant to facilitate in-car use.

Garminfone obviously focuses on GPS technology, and it will offer users real-life weather and traffic updates, auto re-routing and access to Garmin’s huge points of interest database. Pre-order isn’t yet available, but the Garminfone’s custom features are bound to make it a big hit among drivers.

Motorola Flipout Runs Android


I’m not to big on square phones like the upcoming Motorola Flipout, but the Android operation system is definitely a positive.

Announced earlier as the Twist, a name borrowed from rival Nokia Twist, a phone that ironically enough, has relatively the same shape, the Flipout will apparently be based on the Android OS. Though still just a rumored handheld, the Motorola Flipout is scheduled to hit retailers in three different colors (black, green and pink) that make it obvious it will be targeting the female clientele.


Android 2.1 Update for Motorola MILESTONE, Available in the UK

Motorola has released the Android 2.1 update for those in the UK who own a Motorola MILESTONE smartphone.

Motorola made the official announcement on their Facebook page and the update is available for download at their site.

On this page you will also find information about the minimum requirements of your PC in order to download and install the update, such as a 400Mhz processor, 256MB of RAM or 250MB of available hard disk space and, since we find ourselves in the 21th century, it shouldn’t be a problem with that.

Just go there, download and install the update and you will get a bunch of new features for your smartphone.

Aigo’s New Range of Tablet PC’s

The tablet PC industry is getting bigger with every passing day.  Now is Aigo’s turn to come up on the market with a new range of tablet PC’s, available in size from 4 to 7 inch screen.

The N700, which is the 7-inch screen tablet, comes with a Dual core Cortex A9 1Ghz processor, 512MB of DDR2 memory and built-in storage capacities from 4GB to 32GB. The display has a resolution of 800×480 pixels and it has multi touch capabilities.


HTC Hero Ready For Android 2.1 Update

HTC has announced that the HTC Hero will receive a ROM upgrade on April 16th.

The upgrade they are talking about is actually an OS update to Android 2.1 and it will be released on handsets with the following ROMs : Nordic/Greek/RUS/UKR/SA.

This update is probably included in the HTC Android 2.1 upgrade program which was announced not long ago and where the HTC company plans on updating all their Android-based handsets to Android 2.1

The Motorola MILESTONE is ready to receive the Android 2.1 OTA update. The process takes very short time and requires a reboot after installation.

Some of the new features coming with the update include live wallpapers, 9 home screen panels, Quick Office, new Camera and Facebook applications. Also, the update brings some speed enhancements to the smartphone and a new interface that will make it easier and safer to tap the screen when you select the Driving (in car) profile.

Bphone Smartphone Runs Linux And NOT Android


Every time I look at these images, I think of anything else but a smartphone. The Bphone is a smartphone made in China which uses Linux as OS and not Windows Mobile or Android, as you probably expected.

The Bphone has an enormous 5″ touchscreen display with 800×480 resolution that should more than enough for your videos and it also has 180-degree flip capability. The smartphone is powered by a Marvell PXA310 CPU, running at 624MHz.

Orange UK Will Start Shipping Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 In April

Orange, the last UK mobile carrier, has announced the upcoming availability of the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10, which will also be available through O2 , Vodafone, T-Mobile and Virgin.

Orange will offer the Xperia X10 in two colors, sensous black and, exclusively for Orange, luster white. The phone features a 4″ TFT capacitive touchscreen with a resolution of 480 x 854 pixels and 65K colors, which is also scratch-resistant. It has 1GB internal memory and comes with an 8GB memory card, but it also has a microSD card slot for up to 16GB.


Android 2.1 for Motorola Droid Delayed


That’s right Droid users, I’m afraid you’re going to have to put down your handhelds, for now, the promised update isn’t coming on time.

The long-awaited firmware that was to upgrade the Motorola Droid’s Android operating system to the latest 2.1 version, isn’t coming today. And, sadly, it’s probably not coming to available tomorrow either, since the status of the release has changed to TBD (To Be Determined).


HTC Legend and HTC Desire Coming To Vodafon UK in April

Both Legend and Desire from HTC have been listed on Vodafone’s online store where the release date is set to April. T-Mobile and Orange will also start shipping the HTC Desire in April in the UK.

The phones are running under Google Android OS and feature WiFi, Bluetooth, HSDPA and 3G connectivity and 5 MP camera. The HTC Desire has a 3.7 inches touchscreen display, while the Legend has a slightly smaller display measuring 3.2 inches.

There is no information about pricing yet but probably Vodafone will open up pre-orders soon.

Acer Announces Limited Edition Ferrari Smartphone


Acer announced it will once again be teaming up with sports car manufacturer Ferrari to produce a limited edition Acer Ferrari smartphone.

Blackberries and iPhones are way to common nowadays, and the other smartphones just aren’t good enough. These are the problems trendy people are confronted with in these hard times, and there’s not much they can do about it. Luckily Acer is coming to the rescue.

The Korean tech giant has teamed up with Italian car maker Ferrari for a limited edition smartphone. Not many details have been revealed so far, other than it will run on the Android 2.1 OS and have some strong Ferrari cues and branding. The official launch of the Acer Ferrari smartphone will take place sometime in March 2010.

Garmin-Asus Nüvifone A50 to have Avanced GPS Technology

The co-branded alliance Garmin-Asus announced today the Garmin-Asus nüvifone A50.  The Android-powered smartphone has a variety of location technologies and applications and it is the first to include the Garmin navigation with turn-by-turn and voice prompted directions.

The nüvifone A50 features a 3.5-inch HVGA capacitive touchscreen display with finger-friendly user interface, QWERTY touchscreen keyboard, 3MP auto-focus camera with geotagging functionality and 3G support, GPS, Bluetooth, accelerometer sensor, 4GB internal storage and microSD card slot.


Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 to Receive Updates Soon After Launch

Sony Ericsson has announced that the Xperia X10 will receive a newer version of Android after its launch. It will go on sale running under Android 1.6 and we will probably get the 2.1 version later.

Some guys from Sony Ericsson claim that the software update for the Xperia X10 will upgrade the complete Sony Ericsson User Experience Platform.

For the moment we don’t know the exact date when SE Xperia X10 will receive updates or which version of Android will be used.

Odroid – World’s First Handheld Android Gaming Console


That’s right, the popular Android mobile OS is also powering the Odroid, and interesting handhel gaming device made in Korea

Odroid is the world’s first multi-format handheld console based on the Android platform. That’s intriguing enough, but its got plenty of other features to make it interesting. First there’s the HDTV-out via a HDMI port that allows you to play games on a high-definition display, then there are the twin memory slots, for MicroSD and SD cards, the accelerometer, web browser and mp3 player capacity.

The upcoming DEVOUR slider phone from Motorola that runs under Android 1.6 will feature the Verizon Wireless Network and it will be the first Motorola device for Verizon to receive MOTOBLUR Android social networking aggregator service.

Under the aluminum casing, the phone features a 3.1-inch HVGA capacitive touchscreen, QWERTY keyboard, a 3-megapixel autofocus camera and ships with an included 8GB microSD card. The device also has a touch sensitive navigation pad, dual-microphone speakerphone with noise cancellation and features pre-loaded applications like Google Search, Google Maps Navigation, Youtube and others.


Sungworld anounces Android-Powered MID

This Mobile Internet Device (MID) from Sungworld will have Android as operating system and it is based on the ARM926 platform. Even if it doesn’t have a name yet, some of its specs were unveiled, showing a 7-inch 800×480 touchscreen,512MB RAM, 2GB SSD, Wi-Fi connectivity, it plays 1080p videos and features HDMI port. Sungworld’s Mobile Internet Device is expected to go on sale at the end of this month and we pray for a competitive price.
