The Nokia N8 hasn’t even been launched yet, and the Chinese have already launched a 1:1 replica. These guys sure work fast.

The Nokia N8 hasn’t even been launched yet, and the Chinese have already launched a 1:1 replica. These guys sure work fast.

But, like most Shanzhai, the Chinese N8 doesn’t come close to the original, as far as technical specifications are concerned. It has a 3.2 touchscreen with a 240×400 inch resolution, WAP, GPRS, FM radio, Bluetooth, webcam and Java support. Battery life ranges between 3 and 5 hours of talk time and 8 to 12 days, in stand-by mode.

But the N8 replica has no WIFI, 3G, Symbian OS, and we can’t even mention the 12 megapixel Carl Zeiss sensor. The 75 euro price tag seems pretty reasonable, and accessories are even cheaper: 3 euro for a second battery, 2 euro for a 4 Gb SD card, and 6 euro for a Bluetooth headset. Still, judging by its features, I’m not sure it’s worth it.

Check out more photos of the N8 replica, after the break.

Suddenly, those huge buttons make a little sense, right? They’re for people who’s eyesight isn’t what it used to be, and it saves the time they’d spent looking for their glasses. The Senior Citizen phone also comes with a built-in flash light, for seeing in the dark, FM radio and, most importantly, an SOS button. This can be programmed to dial four phone numbers and send SMS to them, in case of emergencies. When the SOS button is pressed, it also makes a loud warning sound, alerting everyone in the premises.

The Senior Citizen Phone may not have a touchscreen, or all kinds of crazy apps, but it will literally save your life.

Unlike most other mobile manufacturers, Alcatel hasn’t exactly been flooding the market with top-of-the-line devices, at least not for a while now. But the design of the OT-808 proves the company might be considering jumping on the smartphone bandwagon.

It might not have the latest features you’re used to, but the Alcatel OT-808 definitely has an interesting design, most uncommon to entry-level handhelds. Its clamshell shape hides a full QWERTY keyboard and a 2.4 inch QVGA display that give the OT-808 a ‘netbook look and feel’.

Other features of the Alcatel OT-808 include an external 1.1 inch OLED display, a 2 megapixel camera, Bluetooth 2.0, Opera Mini browser, email, IM, social networking integration and dual-band GSM connectivity.

The Alcatel OT-808 doesn’t have a fixed release date yet, but it will cost $125.

Before you get too excited, I should tell you NEC just introduced their new wonder chip, we probably won’t see it on a phone before the end of the year.

Still the NEC CE151 camera chip is quite a breakthrough that supposedly makes mobiles comparable to DSLR cameras. Among the most impressive features of NEC’s new chip are the HD video recording capabilities and the shooting of still images of up to 13 megapixels.

There was no official statement on when we can expect NEC to implement the CE151 chip in its handhelds, but I wouldn’t hold my breath. Be sure to check the rest of its features, after the break.

Easy to use API

Will be backwards compatible with earlier NEC CE chips, providing a smooth transition to the CE151

Noise-reduction function to minimize lens distortion commonly found in phone cameras

Reduced energy consumption of appr. 25% from the CE143

So far, all we know about the Lenovo Lephone is that it features a 3.7 inch touchscreen display able to support a resolution of 480 x 800, a 1 Ghz Qualcomm processor, dual 3-megapixel cameras, built in WIFI, Bluetooth and GPS and a full QWERTI keyboard.

Lenovo LePhone will first launch in China, but so far there’s no info about a release in the US or Europe. I hope we won’t have to wait too much for this gorgeous piece of tech-heaven.

The limited edition Sharp Chocolate Phones are part of Sharp’s winter line-up and were created in collaboration with Q-pot, a Japanese design firm based in Tokyo. The chocolate-shaped mobiles come in a packaging that closely resembles a box of chocolates and feature chocolate themed wallpapers, photo frames and menus.

The SH-04B sports an 8 megapixel CCD camera, a 3 inch WVGA ASV display, a digital TV tuner, Bluetooth and many other features common to modern cell-phones. Unfortunately Sharp’s Chocolate Phone is currently only available for purchase in Japan.

The iPhone isn’t known for the high-quality photos its shoots, but thanks to a ingenious device called Phone-O-Scope, you can get some pretty decent stills.

The Phone-O-Scope is basically an adapter used to attach a SLR lens to your iPhone. It was designed by Bhautik Joshi, a research engineer from San Franciso who just wanted to see if such a device could be built. SUre it’s not the prettiest iPhone accessory you’ve ever seen, but it does offer you all the advantages of SLR lenses, like DOF effects and focal lengths.

Operating the Phone-O-Scope can allegedly be pretty clumsy, but the Holga-like quality of the photos and the $10 cost of the entire project (providing you already own the iPhone and SLR lens) make it worth your while. I f you’re willing to build your very own Phone-O-Scope, take a look at the tutorial on Bhautik’s site.
