I’m not to big on square phones like the upcoming Motorola Flipout, but the Android operation system is definitely a positive.

Announced earlier as the Twist, a name borrowed from rival Nokia Twist, a phone that ironically enough, has relatively the same shape, the Flipout will apparently be based on the Android OS. Though still just a rumored handheld, the Motorola Flipout is scheduled to hit retailers in three different colors (black, green and pink) that make it obvious it will be targeting the female clientele.

The squarish Flipout already has a set of unofficial specs: a 2.8 inch display, 3.1 megapixel camera, 700 Mhz cpu, GPS technology and Motorola’s proprietary BLUR UI technology. Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait a while for pricing and release date.

Motorola has released the Android 2.1 update for those in the UK who own a Motorola MILESTONE smartphone.

Motorola made the official announcement on their Facebook page and the update is available for download at their site.

On this page you will also find information about the minimum requirements of your PC in order to download and install the update, such as a 400Mhz processor, 256MB of RAM or 250MB of available hard disk space and, since we find ourselves in the 21th century, it shouldn’t be a problem with that.

Just go there, download and install the update and you will get a bunch of new features for your smartphone.

The title sounds so good, but as you might have figured out, these set-top boxes can’t turn 2D signal into 3D, but simply switch between signals, automatically.

The tech giant announced their new industry-leading DCX TV set-tops will receive some enhancements that will allow them to detect 3D signals and automatically switch from 2D to 3D. basically, the new software implemented by Motorola, will save you the hassle of having to manually switch from 2D to 3D, whenever a channel changes the signal.

No date has been mentioned, as to when the new 3D upgrades will take place, but it will apparently happen before you can actually get a 3D TV for your living room. So don’t throw away your 3D glasses, just yet, even with the new DCX TV set-top boxes, you’re still going to need them.

As we were informed not long ago that the Motorola DEVOUR will hit the shelves in March, the phone is now available through Verizon’s online market or in stores for $149.99 after a $100 mail-in rebate with a 24 month price plan.

The Motorola DEVOUR is the second Google Android device to use Verizon. The phone has a 3.1-inch HVGA capacitive touchscreen with a resolution of 320 x 480 pixels, 3MP autofocus camera, QWERTY keyboard, 802.11 b/g WiFi, GPS.

The phone features MOTOBLUR social media service and it also appears on the list of the devices capable of using Skype, making Skype calls to Skype users and also international calls via Skype Out.

That’s right Droid users, I’m afraid you’re going to have to put down your handhelds, for now, the promised update isn’t coming on time.

The long-awaited firmware that was to upgrade the Motorola Droid’s Android operating system to the latest 2.1 version, isn’t coming today. And, sadly, it’s probably not coming to available tomorrow either, since the status of the release has changed to TBD (To Be Determined).

With no explication yet from Verizon, rumors about a bug screwing up the software update emerged, but until some official clarification, there’s nothing to do but wait. We’ll keep you posted on further developments.

Are you surprised to know that someone is trying to make an important step in the field of home phones, when all eyes are on mobile phones and these revolutionary smartphones these days? Then you should know that Motorola is going to create the first Android-based home phone, the HS1001.

The cordless phone is running under Android v1.6 and features a 2.8-inch touchscreen with virtual keypad. It uses the XpandR chipset that supports both Wi-Fi and DECT 6.0, so you’ll  be able to check your emails via the Wi-fi connection and access a full spectrum of multimedia applications through the DECT 6.0.

The HS1001 also has an integrated speaker on its base, in order to playback tunes while it’s docked. The Motorola HS1001 will hit the shelves in the U.S. in Q3 2010 and it is priced at $150.

The upcoming DEVOUR slider phone from Motorola that runs under Android 1.6 will feature the Verizon Wireless Network and it will be the first Motorola device for Verizon to receive MOTOBLUR Android social networking aggregator service.

Under the aluminum casing, the phone features a 3.1-inch HVGA capacitive touchscreen, QWERTY keyboard, a 3-megapixel autofocus camera and ships with an included 8GB microSD card. The device also has a touch sensitive navigation pad, dual-microphone speakerphone with noise cancellation and features pre-loaded applications like Google Search, Google Maps Navigation, Youtube and others.

The Motorola DEVOUR is expected to come on the market in March, but there is no information about the pricing yet.

AT&T’s first Android phone, the Motorola Backflip has already been launched in China, as the Motorola ME600.

The American mobile carrier is expected to launch the Backflip in March, having already ordered around 400,000 units, but meanwhile the Chinese have already gotten their hands on it. The Android-powered Motorola Backflip  comes with an 8GB memory card and a car charger, for a price of 4,298 yuan ($629). AT&T will probably slash $200 off the price tag, with a contract.

The Motorola Backflip is an interesting device that features a 20 x 480 pixels touchscreen display, HSDPA, Wi-Fi, GPS, full QWERTY keyboard, 3.5mm headset jack, 5MP autofocus camera, and Android with MotoBlur.
