Even if there is no celebration or holiday, Google is offering free Google Nexus One or Motorola Droid to developers. How come?

The deal is not so simple and free. The developers will receive the smartphones with only one condition : they need to create an application that reaches 3.5 star rating and downloaded at least 5,000 times. Rumors are saying that Google has already sent emails to developers in the US, Canada, Europe, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

Puma is better known as a sportswear maker, but this time it’s teamed up with Sagem to produce a solar-powered smartphone known only as the Puma Phone.

This is pretty unexpected news, considering there haven’t been any announcements leading up to this moment. At first glance, the Puma Phone has a pretty interesting design, with a large touchscreen and a solar panel on the backside, that allows you to recharge the device when you don’t have where to plug it in.

Conceived by Sagem, the surprising handheld features a 2.8 inch QVGA TFT capacitive panel, a 3.2 megapixel camera with LED flash and 6x digital zoom, GPS and A-GPS, a secondary VGA front camera and a compass.

The above features don’t look half bad, do they? The problem is Puma’s smartphone features a signature Puma OS, instead of the popular platforms of today, and that could be a problem for people who use a large number of applications to handle their tasks. Puma and Sagem definitely have their work cut out for them as far as the OS is concerned.

The Puma Phone comes with a small 880mAh battery that’s not gonna hold you for very long, so you will have to put that solar panel to good use. Judging from the T-Mobile logo in the above photo, Puma has already found a carrier for its smartphone. Now we wait.

Nokia probably realized its 32 Gb X6 smartphone was a little to expensive for most and launched a more affordable version of its handheld.

Launched in November of 2009, the 32 Gb Nokia X6 had a price tag of $676 and that didn’t really convince people to line up and buy it. So the Finnish giant came up with a cheaper, 16 Gb version of the X6.

Featuring the same 3.2 inch touchscreen as its 32 Gb twin, runs Symbian and comes in the same color variants: black, white, white with pink, and white with yellow. It doesn’t include the Nokia music service, but you can probably overlook that.

The 16 Gb Nokia X6 includes a 5 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics, dual LED flash and promises 18 days of stand-by time and 11.5 hours of continuous talk time. It also comes with the OVI maps navigation system and preinstalled games like Spore and Asphalt 4.

Nokia has announced the 16 Gb X6 will hit the mobile market this quarter, but hasn’t made any announcements regarding its price.
