Seagate Adapter Kit Unleashes the Power of USB 3.0

Seagate has released the new GoFlex drive series, and to make them more appealing, it’s offering you the chance to take full use of the USB 3.0 speeds.

USB 3.0 mighht be the next big thing in data tranfer, with speeds theoretically 3 times highr than USB 2.0, but it’s still such a new technology that Seagate couldn’t incorporate it in the new GoFlex external drives. But it’s done something almost as good. The company is now selling a smart kit that will turn any laptop’s Express Slot into a USB 3.0 port for one of its GoFlex drives.

To experience the unbelieveable speeds of USB 3.0, all you have to do is connect an adapter to the GoFlex drive, and then plug it into one of your laptop’s USB 2.0 slots. It may not be the most comfortable, or good looking solutions, but until something better comes along, it’s totally worth the advantages of the new USB 3.0 technology.

PQI Will Be The First To Launch USB 3.0 Portable HDD

PQI H566 Portable HDD

PQI has unveiled the first 2.5-inch USB 3.0 portable hard drive, which can reach transfer speeds of up to 5GBps, 10 times faster than USB 2.0 .

Known as the PQI H566, the drive features Ur-Smart and Ur Fortress security software with encryption functions for classified data protection and personal data privacy. The portable HDD weighs 200g and it will be available with different storage capacities : 320GB, 500GB and 640GB.

There is no information on when it will hit the shelves or about pricing yet.
