Seagate has released the new GoFlex drive series, and to make them more appealing, it’s offering you the chance to take full use of the USB 3.0 speeds.
USB 3.0 mighht be the next big thing in data tranfer, with speeds theoretically 3 times highr than USB 2.0, but it’s still such a new technology that Seagate couldn’t incorporate it in the new GoFlex external drives. But it’s done something almost as good. The company is now selling a smart kit that will turn any laptop’s Express Slot into a USB 3.0 port for one of its GoFlex drives.
To experience the unbelieveable speeds of USB 3.0, all you have to do is connect an adapter to the GoFlex drive, and then plug it into one of your laptop’s USB 2.0 slots. It may not be the most comfortable, or good looking solutions, but until something better comes along, it’s totally worth the advantages of the new USB 3.0 technology.

The USB Notebook Crime Prevention Sensor is an interesting and helpful (not really) gadget from Thanko. You just need to plug it into your laptop and activate it and, when someone tries to steal your laptop and unplug the Crime Prevention Sensor, the alarm starts.
But the question is : Is there any thief in this world who will unplug the device first and then steal your laptop? Believe me, any thief who is not stupid will take your laptop and run without checking if there is any device plugged into it. So we don’t know for sure what the guys from Thanko were thinking when they came up with this idea but, if you find it helpful, you can have it for $26 from Geekstuff4u

With USB flash drives like Kingston Data Traveler 5000, this kind of USB lock seems pointless, but it does look badass.
All you have to do is push in the USB stick, set the combination, and spin the tumblers. For the untrained eye, the USB flash drive seems safe, especially since trying to pull the stick out of the lock will damage it. But, in reality, this tumbler USB lock doesn’t anybody from accessing the data directly from the chip, inside the flash drive, provide it you know how to do it.
But, the old fashioned lock does look unbreakable to most people, just don’t try to use it to secure documents regarding national security or such things.

It is just a matter of time until the USB 3.0 will completely replace the USB 2.0. Asus realize that and they seem to be the first to offer USB 3.0 with a variety of products.
So the guys at Asus are claiming that their future notebooks, netbooks and a variety of mainboards will be equipped with USB 3.0 ports.
This is an important step for Asus in trying to populate the world with USB 3.0 devices and I hope that others will do the same.

Actually, a more appropriate term would be USB brick. With USB sticks getting smaller every day, Russians thought they’d swim against the current and create a giant memory stick.
Featuring a giant wooden case, an on/off switch, a cooling fan, and, of course, a USB drive, the Soviet USB drive is able to store up to 4 Gb of data , and no, it’s not USB 3. But it does rival a vacuum cleaner, as far as noise is concerned.

EMTEC has released another animal-shaped USB flash drive, the Dolphin. It comes in 2GB, 4GB and 8GB storage capacity and features USB 2.0 interface. The flash drive can provide a writing speed of 7 MB/s and a reading speed of 24 MB/s.
The 2GB version is priced at 10.99 Euro while the 8GB version can be acquired for 27.99 Euro.

That’s right, the new DataTraveler 5000 USB flash drive is “certified for government-approved secure data protection.” and that’s saying something. There are so many new flash drives coming out every day, each with its own interesting design, and it’s pretty hard to decide which one to present. But one made from the tooth of a sperm whale is definitely worth a look.
Flash drive modder Manyakus decided wooden flash drives are too common these days, so he decided to go for steel and a sperm whale’s tooth. Yup, that’s definitely out of the ordinary. After carefully meauring and cutting the materials to fit the actual USB stick, Manyakus spent quite a long time carving the Celtic dragon he used as a decoration, but it was more than worth it.

USB 3.0 is the next big thing in data transfer technology right now and computer manufacturers are stepping over each other to deliver machines with built in USB 3.0 technology.
HP has apparently won the race and managed to sell the first laptops with implemented USB 3.0 technology. The HP Envy 15 (if you opt for the ATI 5830 graphics and quad-core i7 processor version) and the Elitebooks 8540p and 8540w have built in USB 3.0 and allow data transfers 10 times faster than before (provided you connect to another USB 3.0 device).
USB 3.0 is backwards compatible, so you’ll be able to connect to older equipment, only it won’t works as well.
